Archive of vintage euro coins,
conspicuous, old and valuable

Pieces minted in 1999, when the euro was still a stranger — EF-40 quality coins that now trade on the market for up to 2,990€.

It was 1999 and the change of millennium was flooding every conversation. The 'year 2000 effect' was technologically feared while we updated all banking infrastructures, and Europe was about to change its currency. In Spain, the euro coexisted with the peseta until January 1, 2002, when it became the sole valid tender. Three years earlier, the first coins began to be minted — struck in small numbers, since their daily use was still residual.

These are the coins of that inaugural moment. On their reverse, at the bottom: the year of minting — 1999, 2000, 2001 — the detail that raises their value. The third side of the coin. Pieces with minting errors or rarities can be even more valuable.

The valuations in this archive come from current searches on Etsy and eBay, where these coins find an active market of collectors. For those who can offer this collection a better life — a museum, a private exhibition, a curated display — the invitation is open.
